In an attempt to diversify product offerings in the military vehicle armor market, in 2009 AT&F entered into a joint venture with a Danish company, Composhield A/S. Composhield specializes in providing lightweight composite armor protection for military vehicles in NATO-friendly countries. AT&F has extensive experience in fabricating armor solutions for vehicle manufacturers in the United States.
Composhield designs and manufactures survivability components for OEMs, Tier I and Tier II partners. The focus is the design and manufacturing of armor materials for vehicle platforms to protect against blast, ballistic and other hostile actions. Protection can be offered against high and low caliber ballistic weapons as well as Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and mine and blast threats.
Composhield has diversified its technologies to satisfy any demand for protection within three main business areas
- Mobile: Any application that can move itself by its own force. Typical examples are light and heavy vehicles, aircraft and ships.
- Semi-mobile: Applications that can be moved but not by own force. Typical examples are building elements for camps, shelters, field hospitals etc. as well as vaults.
- Non-mobile: Permanent structures such as military installations or bases, embassies, power plants and other critical structures.
